A systematic investigation of the low temperature (<0.25 * Tm) creep behavior of a-Ti–1.6V was
performed. Specimens were creep tested at various temperatures between room temperature and
0.25 * Tm at 95% YS at the respective temperatures. It was found that the creep strain rate increases
with increasing temperature. Analysis of the specimens by SEM and TEM showed that slip and twinning
are active deformation mechanism for the entire temperature range of the investigation. This is
the first time that twinning has been an observed creep deformation mechanism for an a-titanium alloy
above room temperature
